上星期去旧金山看了这部戏，改编自小说的音乐剧，故事是讲一对美国母女旅游意大利时，女儿邂逅了一个意大利青年，母亲试图分开两人，不过经过一番努力，这对小恋人终成眷属。我觉得全体演员的表现相当出色，音乐部分由现场的交响乐团负责，对于喜好古典音乐的我，这绝对是加分，灯光和舞台布景的设计接近完美，主要演员的歌声更是没话说，不晓得他们怎么找到这些长得好看又会演又能唱的演员，看完这个音乐剧我个人非常满足，相信去欣赏的观众也会觉得值回票价。Photo by Joan Marcus

这次到加州访友，好友Maggie介绍我读这本书，我在她家读的是中文翻译版，回科罗拉多后我去书店把这本书的原版买了回来，准备再细看一遍或是推荐给朋友，非常有意思的书，作者本身是位外科医生，他揭开许多不为人知的住院医师经历和医疗上无可避免的疏失，书中引用许多实例来说明医学这门科学的难度，我读完后，对外科医生的工作和辛苦更有体会。其实平时最常看的电视节目就是Discovery 的Medical Incredible，觉得那些急诊室的医生真得很了不起，可以在那么有限的时间救回生命，心里由衷的佩服。建议有兴趣的朋友可以看这本书。

今晚回归高尚的娱乐--听音乐会，这场我们买得早，所以位置非常好，阿福一直强调他喜欢贝多芬，我看他有时候根本分不清谁是谁的音乐，哈，偶尔听听音乐会其实很不错，我倒觉得除了音乐本身外，享受现场气氛和开演前的社交也蛮有趣的，我和阿福都挺爱打扮得人模人样去凑热闹，又是一个开心的晚上。要不是票早买了，这周可能会持续上周末的赌博狂热，上周五我和阿福去新墨西哥州4天3夜赌博之旅，他的朋友告诉他Albuquerque有间印第安人新开的赌场很不错，不超速5个小时开得到，我们就决定立刻去探险， 当然我们带着雷达侦测器就一路飚过去，不到4个小时就到了赌场，展开日以继夜的厮杀，阿福玩slot、轮盘和craps，我玩21点、轮盘和craps，结果和以前差不多，从大赢赌到小输收场，回家后还意犹未尽，阿福一直念着要再去，所以呐，准备下周末再杀去新墨西哥。

忘了交代一件有意义的事。三个星期前本地一所小学透过我教中文的艺术中心，邀请我去他们学校跟2年级和3年级的小朋友上一堂任何有关中国的东东，听说他们这学期组成一个社团，学习研究中国。对于1个半小时的内容安排，我决定教小朋友说几句中文和如何拿筷子，有多余时间再写几个毛笔字让他们瞧瞧。那天下午大约有40-50个小孩和两个老师在场，我先问他们都学习了中国什么，他们都知道长城、太极拳 .... 和其他零零散散， 小朋友们很有兴趣的学了几句中文后，集体唱了一首歌回报我，哈！其实本来是我临时起意要教他们唱一首中文儿歌，结果我记不起歌词，为了让自己有台阶下，巧妙地问他们会唱什么歌，他们也很可爱的唱给我听了。最后留点时间让他们发问，天真的小孩问我，中国是不是还有黄帝，哈，他们把中国想的太古老了，阿福的小儿子那天跟我一起去，还开玩笑要我骗那些小孩，中国人不会走路都用飞的，哈哈，真坏！对我来说，

除了政治活动，我们也热衷于各类音乐会，以前常跑去另一个城市听音乐会，自从我受邀参加镇上交响乐之友的board meeting（虽然我一次都还没去过），开始在镇上听音乐会和参加他们办的活动。今天这个音乐下午茶非常有趣，和往常的节目不太一样，会场大约有20几桌，布置得像婚礼一样浪漫的气氛，每桌点上蜡烛，摆上演奏音乐的小天使娃娃，白色桌巾装饰粉红色薄纱，用欧洲古典骨瓷茶具喝英式下午茶，搭配每人一份各式精致点心拼盘，漂亮又丰富。节目开始，由主持人访问莫扎特，主持人是音乐系教授，假扮莫扎特的这个人是剧团演员，两人在类似相声的幽默问答中，让我们深入了解莫扎特，他们精湛的表演更惹来一阵阵的笑声，然后是the Veronika String Quartet 演奏莫扎特的曲目，压轴是一位韩国小女生钢琴弹奏莫扎特第一首作品。整个下午就在这种轻松愉快的音乐氛围中度过。

3月真是忙碌的一个月，3/16到3/28回台湾一趟，天公不作美，回台期间一直下雨，不过我还是很努力的吃，把想吃的该吃的都装进肚子，后果是，除了又多些肥肉，也把胃整的很惨。带了两个空箱子回去，装了满满的两箱回来，发现自己真是乱买一通，唉，下次一定要做好采买计划。回来隔天3/29就被拉去参加林肯纪念日晚餐，今年跟去年最大不同是，因为阿福担任党部重要职位，所以大家都认识我们，鸡尾酒时间没有闲下来的一刻，不断和人打招呼交谈，我们被共和党州长候选人邀请同坐一桌，很有趣的政治社交场合，当然我又是唯一的非白人。3/31中午我自己有饭局，Alzheimer's association邀请所有的义工到意大利餐厅聚餐，表达谢意。阿福也邀我去他中午的饭局，不巧撞摊，各自去自己的饭局啦。晚上到机场接他小儿子，开始更忙碌的周末了。

Excellent until....The movie was great up until the end. The story was clever and becomes very intriguing with many twists. 今年我们没有跑远，在镇上Marriott Hotel迎接新年，豪华晚餐和舞会加香槟每人50元，餐后的节目没有去年那家饭店来的精彩，不过埃及之夜这个点子营造了不少气氛，从会场布置到服务生打扮都很有趣，可惜没有客人穿着埃及服饰，大概只有Ralph打条埃及图案的领带，总之增肥后的我们拼命跳舞，玩的非常尽兴。Party入口处 （看我包的像粽子一样，就知道2005又多了不少肉，2006一定要努力除油啊）

Today is a big "gift" day. Last year Ralph sent 3 months & 6 months of flowers for his family. This year he sent everybody Kobe beef. 我的美式生活除了吃喝玩乐外，也有知性的一面，那就是PPEC。每个月第二个星期四晚上PPEC固定聚会，会议在一个经济学教授家，在Colorado Springs，参与的成员有教师、律师、医师、工程师、投资经理人、业务员、家庭主妇和退休人士等来自各行各业，每次到会大约有12-15人。会议题目以美国经济为主，细至货币、自由市场经济、社会安全、税收....各类话题，大至宗教、政治与经济的关系等等。今年四月成立到现在，我们参加了9次，就是说我们没有错过任何一场，Ralph非常热衷这个俱乐部，他的发言更是主力，我是少数女性之一，唯一的亚洲人，多半坐在那里捧着咖啡当忠实听众，然而不鸣则以一鸣惊人，上星期会议结尾前，大家热烈讨论正蓬勃发展的中国经济对美国的影响，多数人对中国政治安定持保留态度，他们担心中国政府会走回头路，当此起彼落争论时，我清清喉咙跟大家分析台湾与中国的关系，中国热的现况及市场环境。

最近很懒，多懒呢？想起以前一个朋友，她发懒时不做家事，内裤穿到不够，要翻过来再穿。哈，扯远了，我只是懒的更新网站。来报告一下感恩节游记吧！早在一个多月前我就说服Ralph利用感恩节假期再去一次Las Vegas，我的动机不单纯，并不是不想烤火鸡，熟悉我的人都知道我爱搞吃的，主要是不愿意烤火鸡给他儿子吃，不让他儿子有机会天天跑来粘我们，旅行是最好的解决方案，不要怪我心机重，Ralph自己也是赌徒一个，听到Las Vegas眼睛都亮了。所有的行程在出发前一个月就全部由我搞定，找到便宜的机票加饭店，再订上三场秀，那么算是完整的赌城之旅了。这个单纯的美国人说没看过上空秀，好吧！就牺牲我要看的甄妮和黄品源演唱会，去看场一群美美的胸部跳舞，最后定案的是，Bellagio的O、Monte Carlo的Lance Burton、MGM的La Femme。从决定要去度假开始，这位老兄就到处宣扬，

周五晚上又去Colorado Springs 听音乐会，这场是青年交响乐团、合唱团和日本姐妹市来的太鼓队一起演出，蛮有趣的音乐结合。周六晚上在Pueblo 的La Renaissance 听歌 -- Patti Gallagher's Musical Notes。先来讲讲La Renaissance 这家餐厅，它原来是间教堂（餐厅招牌很不明显，其实从外表看就是间没有十字架的教堂），不知什么原因在10多年前转手改成现在的餐厅，建筑物本身的历史和典雅让餐厅风格独树，内部并没有过多的改装，反而保有原始木头廊柱、高耸吊灯等等，绝不单调乏味，还具有特色呢。晚餐是自助餐，用餐前照例有段鸡尾酒时间，我们到的有点迟，买了两杯酒后，很快的跟同桌其他人寒暄一番，接着享用不豪华但精致的餐点，服务生非常尽责的在节目开始前帮我们添满茶和咖啡，好戏上场了。顾名思义所演出的歌曲都选自于音乐剧，

从我这一年所贴的文章中，你们可能觉得我的社交生活很丰富，没错，我自己也觉得非常精彩，因为小镇纯朴，因为多数是白人没什么种族问题，因为Ralph热爱政治活动，种种的因素让我很快融入主流社会。我们原本不清楚镇上也有交响乐团，每次都是开一小时车到另一个大城听音乐会，直到最近听我的学生提起Pueblo Symphony Orchestra的指挥是中国人，让我开始感兴趣这里的乐团和音乐会。刚巧上星期Ralph去共和党开会，一对前任主席夫妇邀我们参加周日下午的Symphony fundraiser event，主题是菊花茶，节目内容多是围绕着中国文化，那我们更是非去不可了。这个活动场地是在一个博物馆附设的餐厅里，是栋有历史但维护良好的旧建筑，总之是个装潢、气氛高雅的地方。在我们享用精美点心和中国茶的同时，一位日本女士弹奏古筝，她用的乐谱是清朝时候的古董，据说是父母留给她的，

是的，我们对音乐会很奢侈，这个星期六晚上又去听了一场，不过这场很特别也蛮有创意的，交响乐团不再只是一枝独秀在舞台上演奏名曲，而是随着电影片段播放，现场即兴配乐，有趣的是他们选的6部电影都是40年代到60年代之间的老片，我可是一部都没看过，所以感到新鲜而没有丝毫怀旧，我太专注于影片，几乎忘了乐团的存在，整个音乐真的配合很完美，这样聆听交响乐倒是头一次。

Pikes Peak Theatre is one of our favorite places. We went there for the season opening concert on Sat. night. The program was Verdi's Requiem. This concert was performed by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra, a local chorus and four soloists, and conducted by Lawrence Smith. We not only enjoyed the great music but also the theatre atmosphere. It is hard to describe the good feelings.
